Double Slice Layer Cake Quilt

September 28, 2015 by Angie 9 Comments

The Hello Darling Layer Cake was made into the Double Slice Layer Cake Quilt.

Double-Slice-Layer-Cake-Quilta

It measures 53 x 63.

I’ll need 4-1/2 yards of backing fabric and 1/2 yard of binding fabric and then I’ll take it to my long arm quilter.

If you look real closely … you will find I made a mistake.   In my defense it was the first Double Slice Layer Cake Quilt I’ve made and I had no clue how many blocks went across and down … I figured out the hard way it should have been 6 blocks across and 7 down.

Question for you today ….

Would you be interested in participating in my Double Slice Layer Cake Quilt Along (it’s free)?    Let me know your thoughts!

See ya~

Love your new quilt and, yes, to the quilt along! Oops, I guess that means I’ll have to buy more fabric!
    Have a great day!

    Hi Angie,
Very pretty quilt. I sent my quilt top to Missouri Star Quilt Co. They received it today and they are going to quilt it for me and then I will finish the binding myself. I’m getting the swirls put on it. This is my second lap quilt. The first one I did the quilting part with just straight lines but this one I made for my daughter and I wanted it to look professional and I will get that with the swirls.
Thanks for the inspiration. I have a winter quilt that I’m itchin’ to get started but I think that will have to wait until October’s camping vacation. I’ll take my machine with me. We may be spending family quality time in the camper if it rains.

    Angie,
I forgot to ask, do you have to piece your backing to get it to be large enough to cover the back? I only made small lap quilts and the fabric was large enough to cover the back .
    Thanks,
    Lesa

      Hi Lesa,
I’m not sure … I take my Quilt Top, Backing Fabric and backing fabric to Shirley and she does the rest. I don’t see a seam on the back …. so it appears she didn’t cut the 4-1/2 yards.
