Temporary Office

January 3, 2015 by Angie Leave a Comment

dining-room-office

Over the Christmas break we moved my office to the dining room.

My lovely iMac on the left and the sewing machine on the dining room table….. along with a big Ott Light (it’s an eye sore but it sure works good!)

We also cleaned out the computer cabinet so that I could use it for sewing supplies.  Truth be told it was storing stuff that I needed to throw away … I just need an incentive to go through it (new fabric was just the ticket).

Sewing-cabinet

The cabinet doesn’t look very impressive …. meaning … it doesn’t look like there’s much in there …but I have my lake house sewing machine in there … along with two Accuquilt Cutting Machines.

Speaking of the cutting machine … I broke down and bought the electric.  I look for ways to not add additional stress to my body and cutting fabric is one that I try to avoid as much as possible (at least until we know what the heck is wrong with me).

Sewing cabinet contents:

  • Accuquilt Cutting System
  • Accuquilt Dies
  • Iron (two actually .. one is hidden)
  • Grid Rulers
  • Fabric Starch
  • Ironing board
  • Fabric (several Layer Cakes …once again to save my arm on cutting)
  • Quilt Labels (I add a quilt label to the back of every quilt)
  • Lake House sewing machine (We sold our lake house this summer and we’re in the process of building a new one …..maybe it will be done in 2015.  When my sister was here I took it out of storage so that she could use it.)

After taking pictures … I see the cabinet needs to be re-organized ….. again …but oh well it’s working for now so I’ll call it done.

Before I end ….  I will add that I like to buy bolts of White and Ivory fabric.  I learned on my very first quilt that you want your Quilt Top and your Backing Fabric to be the same shade of white or ivory ….. yes what I’m saying is my first quilt has a different shade of ivory for the back …. I’m okay with it …. especially since it was my first …but going forward I’d like them to match.

See ya!

Butterfly Quilt

Brooke’s quilt was finished just in time for Christmas.

I couldn’t believe it when she called and said it was ready.

If you need a long arm quilter in the Kansas City area let me know … she also ships if you can’t find one in your neck of the wood.  Just send me an email and I’ll give you her contact info.

Between my last post I wrapped up Chase’s quilt top … I’ll take it to the Long Arm Quilter as soon as I wrap up my next quilt (it’s easier to take two at a time for me).

Over the Christmas break we moved my computer upstairs  … in other words my dining room is my temporary office and my quilting room.  Dave has been very patient with me not feeling well.  But he and I both are ready for me to feel back to normal!!

I’ll post the pictures tomorrow of where I’m working and how I turned my old computer cabinet into a sewing cabinet.

See ya!

p.s. Wanna know what I got for Christmas?   LOTS and lots of Pre-cut Fabric (Pre-cut fabric really saves time and it’s a lot easier on the body).

Jelly Roll Strips

The only progress I’ve made on Chase’s quilt is I’ve cut all the jelly row strips.

The finished strips measure 10 x 2-1/2…. UPDATE December 21st … don’t cut all your strips at 10″ … once I started pinning I found a mistake…. I’ll post the correction as soon as possible.

I have to say that cutting the fabric is my least favorite thing to do with quilting.

I’ve attempted to shop for Christmas ….I last about two hours and then I come home and hit the couch.

Thank goodness for Amazon!! 90 percent of my shopping this year has been online.

By the way ….the Hobbit movie was amazing!! As expected I cried the entire last hour. I may go see it again if I can get Dave to go.

See ya!

Layer Cake Quilt

Chase-quilt-pic2final

I titled my post Layer Cake Quilt …but it should be called the Layer Cake + Jelly Roll + Charm Pack Quilt.

This is the beginning stages of Chase’s quilt … (I’m calling it a quick and dirty picture).

When I start a new quilt …. I lay it out on the table …. to make sure the pattern and colors look okay ….. then I lay it out on the floor  … on top of  an existing quilt.  It’s easier to place the squares on it … instead of measuring everything (I’ll share that picture later).

Here’s the Fabric:

  • One Layer Cake – 42  White 10″ Blocks (squares) Moda
  • One Charm Pack – 42 Ash 5″ Squares – Kona Solids Robert Kaufman
  • Jelly Roll  – Ash Kona Solids Robert Kaufman
  • I bought all of them from the Fat Quarter Shop

I’ll share more pictures as I work on it (this one is going to take a while).

The Hobbit started last night …. I’ve always gone on opening night …but not this time.

I was watching the trailer earlier today and Chase came running downstairs when he heard the music.  When it was over I said to him “do you have chill bumps too?  and he said “yes”.

I’m happy that my children and I have seen all the movies together and we are sad this is the last of them.  It seems like we’ve been watching them for most of their lives (The Fellowship of the Ring came out in December 2001).

If I have enough energy when Brooke gets off work Chase, Jessica, Brooke and I are going tonight …. I must remember to take a box of Kleenex!  Sadly I know what happens …. as do everyone that read the book.

I’m headed upstairs to take a nap and hope I wake up with enough energy to go with them (I’ve still not seen Hunger Games … shocking I know!).

See ya!
