Royals Baseball

I’m sharing a few pictures from the Royals game on Sunday.

It was a very exciting game to watch … especially in person!!

Our players are really good this year and the stadium is packed!!

We bought a half season of season tickets ….. which means I get to watch 20 more games.  I think our family is going to be fighting over who gets the tickets … next year we may need to buy four seats!

Brooke and I have watched them play two nights in a row …. right from our living room (counting the game in person on Sunday that makes three games) they’ve won all three!

Here’s a picture of us on Sunday ….

The next picture is the fight that almost happen after Cain was struck on the foot in the first inning.

Ambleside Quilt WIP

The only progress I’ve made to the Ambleside Quilt is I added a row vertically and horizontally.  That means it has six rectangles across and six down.  I will use a white Jelly Row for the sashing (you can see a few of them on the  board).

Time Warner Cable is coming out again today … I spent half of yesterday without internet (last night too) … keeping my fingers crossed it gets fixed … I will admit there was a period last night where I was about to panic.  I follow the same routine every night and it hit me that without internet that couldn’t happen.

Doctors appointment and chiropractor today ….. gotta run.

See ya!

Ambleside Quilt WIP

April 19, 2015 by Angie 2 Comments

I worked all day yesterday creating and filming projects … two for Chic n Scratch and two for Chic n Clique …. since I reached my goal for the day I decided to reward myself with some sewing/quilting.

I didn’t make a lot of progress …. but I’m happy with the results I have so far.

Here’s the details ….

When I was at Prairie Point Quilt Shop I bought two Fat Quarter bundles of the Ambleside Fabric.   My thoughts were …..  I would make a quilt with the first bundle and then offer a quilt along for the 2nd.

I do not have a pattern …. I decided that I will design this one myself and we’ll keep our fingers crossed it turns out okay.   My first instinct is to make a Ambleside Jelly Roll Quilt ….but …. I need to learn and grow as a quilter.

The Fat Quarter Bundle included 8 fat quarters of the same fabric line ….. I choose five of them to start with and I cut 5 rectangles that measure 5 x 10 out of each fat quarter.

Next I placed them on my design wall … and proceeded to move them around until I found a pattern I liked.

Next up ….. I need to decide if I want to make the quilt larger … or keep it on the small side.  I have enough fabric to add a sixth row … but will I?  And I have the other three fat quarters that I could use to make it wider as well … decisions!!

Next … I need to decide what size sashing to use … I could go easy on myself and use a Jelly Roll and I’m leaning towards that.   But I wish there were larger precuts because by the time you sew the 2-1/2 strip on … it’s only 2″.  I’d like it to be 3″  🙂

The last decision I need to make is … do I make the sashing larger on the top, bottom and sides?  Again the Jelly Roll strips are easy but I would like a big border (like four or five inches).

Here’s the pattern so far …

Brooke and I are headed to our first Royals game of the Season … lets pray the rain and thunderstorms hold off until after the game (and we’re hoping for win!!).

See ya!

p.s. WIP means work in progress

Play Date Quilt Work in Progress

babyquiltsuppliesb

The pictures I’m sharing with you today are of my latest quilt.

Before I go into the details …. let me explain why it’s a baby quilt.

I have made a lot of quilts and I have two what I like to call my  ….. Go to Quilts:

  1. Flower Quilt
  2. Jelly Roll Quilt

I’m ready to find a new quick and easy quilt that I can add to my list of Go to Quilts.

For me a Go to Quilt means I can whip it out with very little thought process …. mainly because by the time I finally get to quilt I’ve worked a full day and I’m too tired to think.

So, I dropped off two quilts to Shirley yesterday and since the fabric store is right down the road ….. I had to swing by and buy something!

As I was shopping … I saw two quilts that caught my eye … and both of them said “Kit Available” …. but do you also remember that I’ve bought a ton of quilt kits and to this day I’ve never made a one?   Well, I decided that the kit to make the baby quilt was one that looked like I could whip it out super fast … making it possibly a Go to Quilt.

I left the store with two kits ….. along with other fabric you will see soon!

By the time I got home I was to tired to do much of anything … so I sat down and tried to read the instructions…. I am determined  to make this quilt!!!

But …. I tried to read the instructions was the key word/sentence!!  I swear my brain does not work like normal people!!   I moaned and groaned for a while … ask Brooke to look at it …. then I turned it over and decided to just look at the picture and just start cutting.  I also got out a piece of paper and wrote down how many rectangles I needed, how many squares and how many white rectangles (making it easier to cut).

The picture below is my work in progress.

Next up … ironing the rows and then the Sashing.

Between you and I … I love the look of sashing ….. but I hate cutting the fabric for it because I need 50″ strips and for me that’s not an easy piece of fabric to cut.   I tried to use a Jelly Roll but it’s a different color of white.  Later tonight … or tomorrow I’ll tackle cutting the sashing.

Long story short … the only reason I’m making a baby quilt is because that was the fabric in the kit.  LOL

It’s super cute and I guess I’ll save it for one of my future grandchildren (I believe I’ve already mentioned that I plan on making future grandchildren quilts this year).

Before I forget … the fabric is Play Date by David Walker for Free Spirit and I bought it one of our local quilt shops here in Kansas (Prairie Point).

See ya!

Work in Progress

My picture today is my butterfly blocks ….that I thought were finished ….  and what you can’t see is my huge mistake.

Several of you have told me to share my mistakes …. so here it goes … the salvage side of your fabric is very important … so much so that it can really mess up a quilt if you don’t cut your fabric right!!

Some would call me hard headed …and this time I would have to agree with them.

Every time I think about the word salvage … I  try to avoid it like the plague!

The reason being ….it confuses the heck out of me. It has been explained to me many times …but for whatever reason I can’t grasp it…. I think I have it now …. think … being the key word!!

Here’s my problem …. My 8-1/2 blocks are not 8-1/2 inches. Some are …most of them are not!!  Because I didn’t place them on the die …with the salvage side facing the correct position …. grrrrrr

Don’t let this scare you off quilting …. It’s totally my fault!!

I have to say that I received excellent customer service from Accuquilt! My blocks were all different sizes and I had no clue what I had done wrong … so I called them and she explained …. more than once because my brain just shuts down when the word salvage is mentioned.

My plan to use a Layer Cake to make my butterfly quilt … gets the axe and instead I’ll use yardage.

All is not lost …. I  have a fix …. my 8-1/2 blocks are gonna be 7-1/2 blocks ….after I trim all four sides of all 80 blocks.  (I always say I learn the hard way!!)

All this means is it will take me a little more time to show any progress.

See ya!
