The pictures I’m sharing with you today are of my latest quilt.
Before I go into the details …. let me explain why it’s a baby quilt.
I have made a lot of quilts and I have two what I like to call my ….. Go to Quilts:
- Flower Quilt
- Jelly Roll Quilt
I’m ready to find a new quick and easy quilt that I can add to my list of Go to Quilts.
For me a Go to Quilt means I can whip it out with very little thought process …. mainly because by the time I finally get to quilt I’ve worked a full day and I’m too tired to think.
So, I dropped off two quilts to Shirley yesterday and since the fabric store is right down the road ….. I had to swing by and buy something!
As I was shopping … I saw two quilts that caught my eye … and both of them said “Kit Available” …. but do you also remember that I’ve bought a ton of quilt kits and to this day I’ve never made a one? Well, I decided that the kit to make the baby quilt was one that looked like I could whip it out super fast … making it possibly a Go to Quilt.
I left the store with two kits ….. along with other fabric you will see soon!
By the time I got home I was to tired to do much of anything … so I sat down and tried to read the instructions…. I am determined to make this quilt!!!
But …. I tried to read the instructions was the key word/sentence!! I swear my brain does not work like normal people!! I moaned and groaned for a while … ask Brooke to look at it …. then I turned it over and decided to just look at the picture and just start cutting. I also got out a piece of paper and wrote down how many rectangles I needed, how many squares and how many white rectangles (making it easier to cut).
The picture below is my work in progress.
Next up … ironing the rows and then the Sashing.
Between you and I … I love the look of sashing ….. but I hate cutting the fabric for it because I need 50″ strips and for me that’s not an easy piece of fabric to cut. I tried to use a Jelly Roll but it’s a different color of white. Later tonight … or tomorrow I’ll tackle cutting the sashing.
Long story short … the only reason I’m making a baby quilt is because that was the fabric in the kit. LOL
It’s super cute and I guess I’ll save it for one of my future grandchildren (I believe I’ve already mentioned that I plan on making future grandchildren quilts this year).
Before I forget … the fabric is Play Date by David Walker for Free Spirit and I bought it one of our local quilt shops here in Kansas (Prairie Point).
See ya!
