May update

May 17, 2017 by Angie 4 Comments

hey guys,

Dave and I just returned from a week in Aruba!  We haven’t been there since our honeymoon 25 years ago (almost 26) and it was fantastic!!   I seriously took the entire week off and didn’t even check email … that like never happens!

We went deep sea fishing and here’s a picture from the back of the boat.  I shared a video on my Facebook page of all the Dolphins swimming along the boat … it was magical!!

The next picture was taken at the Flying Fishbone in Aruba … The service was fantastic, the food was awesome and the location …. right on the beach during a sunset with our feet in the sand was amazing!!!

That section you see in the picture is a bit farther from the beach … our table was about 10 feet from the water and some tables were actually in the water (I’m not sure my feet could have handled being in the water for two plus hours).

The last picture I’m sharing is just me having some fun at the Aruba airport ….

When I arrived home, my garage was full of Stampin’ Up! Catalogs to ship out.  Lesli and I have been working on them all week … I hope to have all of them shipped out by next Tuesday!!

I hope you’re all doing well!!

p.s. Miss Bella, Skittles and Elvis are doing well!!  We introduced Elvis and Skittles on Saturday for the first time and we were shocked that Elvis was the aggressive one.

Color Theory – 56 Blocks Quilt

Color Theory – 56 Blocks Quilt
Color Theory Moda Fabric

Our next quilt along will more than likely be in June  …. but in between now and then I need to do a Quilt Test (I always make one or two before we do a Quilt Along).

I’m thinking the Color Theory by Vanessa Christenson of V and Co for Moda Fabrics is going to be my test quilt and if it all works out …. I’ll choose another fabric line for the actual Quilt Along.

I’m only sharing my thinking process today.

Thoughts ….

  • 1 Yard each of five patterns of fabric ….. I’m going monochromatic this time.
  • Each block will  measure ???? Still thinking … leaning towards 8-1/2 x 8-1/2.
  • 7 Blocks across and  8 Blocks down will equal 56 Blocks (so I’m thinking I’ll be calling it my 56 Blocks Quilt).

Fabric ….

  1. Pattern one:  14 Blocks
  2. Pattern two:  10 Blocks
  3. Pattern three:  13 Blocks
  4. Pattern four:  9 Blocks
  5. Pattern Five:  10 Blocks

Again … all of these are my thoughts … but here is my template for the square placement.

When I know more I’ll be sure to let you know.

See ya!

Royals and the Mets

April 4, 2016 by Angie 1 Comment

Yesterday was opening day at the K and the Kansas City Royals faced the New York Mets  ….. I’m happy to say we WON 🙂

It sure got close there at the very end!!

The K Royals and Mets April 3 2016

I have to say  … I was confused about this game  …

  1. American League teams don’t usually open playing a National League team.
  2. Teams that win the World Series don’t usually play the team they beat on opening day.

So, when I was at the game yesterday I ask why that happened because I too felt it was a little awkward facing the Mets on opening day (the term I used was “it felt like we were rubbing salt in their wounds”).

I was told that the games are scheduled months before the World Series and there was no way of knowing these two teams would be the winning and losing teams.

Here’s some pictures of Game 1 at the K ….  it was a perfect day!

Wade Davis  … need I say more?

My last picture is a Snap Chat of me 🙂  Dave was driving to the game and I was snap chatting with my family (we love Snap Chat)!!

Chase and Jessica are going to Friday’s game and I’m selling Sunday’s tickets … my next game is April 19th … but I’m having a small surgery on the 18th and I’m not sure I’ll feel up to going.  I hope and pray I feel okay because we’re playing the Tigers and that should be a good game!

I hope my next blog post is back to the Lulu Roses Quilt Along but I’m not sure … I’ve not had time to touch my sewing machine and I still have several blocks to sew before I can film the next step.

See ya!

Ironing Quilt Tops

Ironing Quilt Tops

ironingquiltsa

My goal for 2015 was to make a Quilt for every immediate family member …… and I’m sad that I fell short.

I haven’t counted recently ….  but I believe I made approximately 20 Quilt Tops this year.   The next step for all of them is to take them to a long arm quilter (grrrr  …. I wish I had the time and the means to do it myself).

Before I can take my quilts to Shirley I need to iron them …… so ….. one morning this week that’s exactly what I did.

I’m going to switch lanes for a few minutes and share some personal stuff ….. the whole reason for me starting this blog was so I could write about anything and everything.

My husband was diagnosed with Melanoma in November, had surgery and now he needs another surgery.  With the holidays approaching and hearing the cancer word again … it has thrown me for a loop and that’s putting it mildly!

We’ve had many people say “it will be okay” and we’ve had people say “yeah so and so died from melanoma”.  Everyone means well …. but it still doesn’t change how you feel when you’ve been told you have cancer or your husband has cancer.    Those that have had cancer know exactly what I’m talking about.

So, just like last year … when I feel sad or emotional I just want to turn to my sewing machine.  But I also want to be a better wife and a better mother.  We all know that work-a-holics struggle with balancing and I’m no exception.  Every day I wake up struggling …. do I focus on work or my family, our house and Christmas?

I don’t know how much I will post in the next month … I want to post every day!! I know when I share … it helps  ….we all struggle and to know we are not alone is huge.   But … this story is not just mine to share and although I’m an open book (most of the time) my family is not.

If I don’t see or chat with you again before Christmas just know you are in my thoughts and when I have a better grasp on everything I will be back.

My last quilt completed was the Double Slice Layer Cake Quilt Along and I have two choices for the next one … as soon as I can come up for air I will work on it.

Thanks for listening (or reading) and have a wonderful day!
