Butterfly Stitching

December 6, 2014 by Angie Leave a Comment

Butterfly-Stitching

My picture today is the three tests I did to decide which stitching to use around the butterflies.

I started with the chocolate zig zag because my old butterfly quilt has black (hand stitched) zig zags around all the butterflies.

The quilt was given to me by my boss when I moved to Nashville …. in my early 20’s (it’s too worn to share a picture).  Brooke has ask me for it …. for years!!  My answer has always been I’ll make you one 🙂

I have always loved quilts and I remember my grandmother and aunts making their blocks  ……I never got one of their quilts …  but I remember admiring them!

Every time I saw my aunt  Ima Jean she would show me her latest blocks …. how I wish I had taken the time to learn back then!  (I had too much energy and was always on the go!!)  I think it’s safe to say they would all be proud of me (even though my stuff is super simple).

So … back to the butterflies  … I decided to go with the simple and classic stitching  ….  even though Brooke loves my old butterfly quilt with the zig zag … she loves it because of the smell and the feel.

I’ve had a whopper of a headache for several days (and extreme fatigue) and the only thing that doesn’t make my head hurt worse is sewing (the machine is really quite) … if you know me you already know I simply can not just do nothing … there are so many things I love to do and doing nothing is torture!!!

I had someone ask me if this blog is about quilting … to be honest  … I like to write and I have zero plans ….what ever I’m doing at the moment is what I’ll share.    I guess you could almost call it my journal.      Brooke is moving out in January and I’m on a mission to get her quilt done so that she can take it with her … hence the reason why most of my posts have been about the quilt.

Next month is could be about something totally different (food, oils, Miss Bella, etc).

Gotta run .. see ya!

p.s. I just re-read this blog post and it’s all over the place … I know it and yet I’ll post it anyway.  We’ll blame it on my whopper headache!!

Brooke’s Butterflies

Brookes-butterflies

The butterflies for Brooke’s quilt have been cut … next up … the fabric squares.

I need to decide if I’m going to do 8″ squares … or 10 inches.  If I use 10″ … we can make the 80 Block Quilt bigger ….. without having to add more blocks.

The next couple days will be super busy and it may take me til the weekend to get them all cut.

See ya!

p.s. Click here  for the name of the die I used the cut the butterflies.

I’m an all or none kind of girl ……  and now that I’ve made one quilt … I’m itching to make another.

So …. I decided that I’ll start with Brooke’s quilt (she’s been asking me to make her one forever).

I took her in my office and told her to pick out the fabric she wanted ….. along with the shape.

She choose this fabric ….. with a butterfly and we’ll be making my 80 Block Quilt.

I’m not sure when or where I bought the fabric …but I can tell you the name ….

I’m going to use Moda Bella Solids 60″ White Yardage and my first step is cutting the squares.

The next step will be cutting out the butterflies using the AccuQuilt GO Fabric Cutter.

Here’s the die I’ll use to cut all the butterflies …

I’ll update you when I make progress.

See ya!

Kim’s Quilt

November 30, 2014 by Angie Leave a Comment

My sister Kim came to Kansas for Thanksgiving and instead of going shopping … we decided to make a Quilt (top).
Kimsquilt

It’s been a few years since I’ve made a quilt  …. and the same can be said for Kim visiting Kansas … her last visit was in 2011 when she came out to help me during my surgery.  I sure miss living near her!!!

The next picture I’m sharing is of Kim with Chase and Brooke … they too were so happy to have family visiting for Thanksgiving.  (It can be very lonely without family during the holidays!!!)

The next picture is of Chase, Brooke and I ….

The final picture is of Kim & I with Miss Bella.  This was the first time Kim met Miss Bella  ….. she fell in love with her and said she was the best and funniest dog she has ever met (and named herself “aunt mommy” after Miss Bella mistook her for me).
