To pin or not to pin

December 13, 2014 by Angie Leave a Comment

The question is  …. to pin or not to pin.

When Kim was here ….. she said it took too long to pin the rows … so she didn’t.  Turns out her quilt turned out just fine.

So, last night as I was trying to wrap up Brooke’s quilt and I decided to try it.

Well … let me just say … it don’t work for me!!

After removing the very crocked first row and starting all over …..  I decided I’ll go back to be a rule follower and pin my rows.

I’m officially done with Brooke’s quilt … and I hope to share the picture soon … I’m waiting on the sun to come out!  (It may be a while!!!)

The picture above is of the Flower Quilt (that I started in my video …. many moons ago) I decided to go ahead and finish it real quick since all it needs is for me to sew the rows together.

Now I just need to decide who I should give it to … I’m kinda thinking maybe me.  LOL  The reason I say that is the first two quilts I made … I keep protected (meaning they stay on my shelf).   I’ve officially given away more than I’ve kept so that’s a good thing!!

On a more personal note … I’m headed to the doctor on Monday… I’ve hurt myself and how and what I did is to ridiculous to share online!!  I will say in my defense these eyes of mine don’t work like they used too!!  (and might I add that getting older just plain stinks!!)

I’m feeling a bit stressed … Xmas is in 12 days … not one present has been bought and zero Christmas cards have been mailed …but yet here I am posting my personal blog (does it count if I’m on my phone and laying on the couch).  In my defense writing on a blog takes zero energy ….. it’s usually the content that requires work.

By the way … I found a new app to resize pictures on my iPhone.  We’ll see if it works and how the quality is (I’m looking for a quick and easy way to post on my blog from my iPhone) .

See ya!

p.s. say a little prayer I don’t end up in the ER tomorrow (I’m hoping I can wait til Monday to see the doctor).

Rows are complete

Over the weekend I managed to get all the rows sewn.

Next up ….ironing the seams and then stitching all the rows together.

I need to find my long arm quilters phone number ….. I hope she has time to get it done before Brooke moves out!

By the way …… I made this post on my iPhone …. The picture may be too large?  If it is I’ll correct it tomorrow.

See ya later!

Butterfly Stitching

Butterfly-Stitching

My picture today is the three tests I did to decide which stitching to use around the butterflies.

I started with the chocolate zig zag because my old butterfly quilt has black (hand stitched) zig zags around all the butterflies.

The quilt was given to me by my boss when I moved to Nashville …. in my early 20’s (it’s too worn to share a picture).  Brooke has ask me for it …. for years!!  My answer has always been I’ll make you one 🙂

I have always loved quilts and I remember my grandmother and aunts making their blocks  ……I never got one of their quilts …  but I remember admiring them!

Every time I saw my aunt  Ima Jean she would show me her latest blocks …. how I wish I had taken the time to learn back then!  (I had too much energy and was always on the go!!)  I think it’s safe to say they would all be proud of me (even though my stuff is super simple).

So … back to the butterflies  … I decided to go with the simple and classic stitching  ….  even though Brooke loves my old butterfly quilt with the zig zag … she loves it because of the smell and the feel.

I’ve had a whopper of a headache for several days (and extreme fatigue) and the only thing that doesn’t make my head hurt worse is sewing (the machine is really quite) … if you know me you already know I simply can not just do nothing … there are so many things I love to do and doing nothing is torture!!!

I had someone ask me if this blog is about quilting … to be honest  … I like to write and I have zero plans ….what ever I’m doing at the moment is what I’ll share.    I guess you could almost call it my journal.      Brooke is moving out in January and I’m on a mission to get her quilt done so that she can take it with her … hence the reason why most of my posts have been about the quilt.

Next month is could be about something totally different (food, oils, Miss Bella, etc).

Gotta run .. see ya!

p.s. I just re-read this blog post and it’s all over the place … I know it and yet I’ll post it anyway.  We’ll blame it on my whopper headache!!

Brooke’s Butterflies

Brookes-butterflies

The butterflies for Brooke’s quilt have been cut … next up … the fabric squares.

I need to decide if I’m going to do 8″ squares … or 10 inches.  If I use 10″ … we can make the 80 Block Quilt bigger ….. without having to add more blocks.

The next couple days will be super busy and it may take me til the weekend to get them all cut.

See ya!

p.s. Click here  for the name of the die I used the cut the butterflies.
