Another Sewing Machine

June 27, 2016 by Angie 4 Comments

Yesterday I shared a Sewing Machine perfect for a beginner and today I’m going to share another option.

The  Juki TL-2010Q 1-Needle Portable Sewing Machine

31e79WuPCNL

If you’re looking for a fast machine that is very sturdy …. look no further.  It sews very straight with very little effort.

But …this is the one machine that I have difficulty threading.  I’m not sure why but I have to watch a video every time.   Maybe because it’s very different from the Bernina sewing machines or there’s very few videos on You Tube showing you how to actually use the machine.   I like how it sews and I love how fast it goes …but because I struggle with the threading and the tension … I don’t use it very often.

That is the one thing about Bernina … there are a ton of videos on You Tube!  My favorite channel is Heirloom Creations … those videos will help you decide which machine you must have (there’s 34 videos for my 350 SE sewing machine).

See ya!

Sewing Machine For Beginners

June 26, 2016 by Angie 4 Comments

Today I’m going to talk about sewing machines ….

Everyone has their favorites … just like cameras …. you’re either a Nikon fan or a Canon fan …. or somewhere in the middle.

The same can be said for sewing machines!

Personally my most FAVORITE sewing machine will be my BERNINA 350 SE!

I have the Tula Pink version … I’d love the have the Best Friend version below (the Special Edition machines change designs every so often).

But … I realize they are not in the budget for a person brand new to sewing.

So, earlier this year I bought a Brother machine so that I could test it out and give it my seal of approval.

If you are brand new to sewing …. I recommend the

Brother Project Runway PC420PRW 294-Stitch Professional Grade Computerized Sewing Machine

I have taken it back and forth to the lake house to make sure it travels well and it does.  It also has all my favorite features, knee lift, self threader and a thread cutter.

With all that being said …. if you get hooked on sewing like I have …. stop by your local Bernina Store and test out of one of their machines ….  (the difference has to be seen in person).

See ya later~

Daysail Jelly Roll Quilt

June 24, 2016 by Angie 4 Comments

I have another Jelly Roll Quilt to share with you and this one was for my Aunt Cecilia.

Day Sail Jelly Roll Quilt

I called her this past winter and ask for her favorite colors …. which was Red, Blue and White.

Next I called my sister Kim and we both got on the Missouri Quilt Company and the Fat Quarter Shop websites and starting looking at fabric (she’s in Tennessee, I’m in Kansas but we made it work).

We looked for an hour and finally determined that the Daysail by Bonnie & Camille for Moda Fabrics would be perfect.  The funny thing is at the time I thought it’s nice but not my colors … boy was I wrong.  Once it was finished I’m wishing I had made one for me too (for the lakehouse).

Click here for a free tutorial on how to make a Jelly Roll Quilt.

It’s been a couple months since my last post ….   between Dave’s surgeries and mine … Brooke’s graduation, our trip (then jetlag), etc … lets just say I feel like I’m on a fast moving roller coaster and every day zooms right past me.

I’m sewing a little … but not a lot.  Most of the quilts I’m going to share with you over the next month were the ones I made last fall/winter for my family (family quilts for 2015 has carried over to 2016 as the list grew).  I shared most of the quilt tops and now I need to share the finished product.

I hope you’re all doing well!

Color Theory – 56 Blocks Quilt

April 25, 2016 by Angie 1 Comment

Color Theory – 56 Blocks Quilt
Color Theory Moda Fabric

Our next quilt along will more than likely be in June  …. but in between now and then I need to do a Quilt Test (I always make one or two before we do a Quilt Along).

I’m thinking the Color Theory by Vanessa Christenson of V and Co for Moda Fabrics is going to be my test quilt and if it all works out …. I’ll choose another fabric line for the actual Quilt Along.

I’m only sharing my thinking process today.

Thoughts ….

  • 1 Yard each of five patterns of fabric ….. I’m going monochromatic this time.
  • Each block will  measure ???? Still thinking … leaning towards 8-1/2 x 8-1/2.
  • 7 Blocks across and  8 Blocks down will equal 56 Blocks (so I’m thinking I’ll be calling it my 56 Blocks Quilt).

Fabric ….

  1. Pattern one:  14 Blocks
  2. Pattern two:  10 Blocks
  3. Pattern three:  13 Blocks
  4. Pattern four:  9 Blocks
  5. Pattern Five:  10 Blocks

Again … all of these are my thoughts … but here is my template for the square placement.

When I know more I’ll be sure to let you know.
