Yesterday was my birthday and to celebrate …. I made a quilt and went to the movies with Chase (to see Logan).
Dave and I will be celebrating officially in Aruba … in May (more details about that later).
Here’s the baby quilt I made and excuse the lack of ironing!! By the time I finished it was close to 1am (I could not go to bed without it finished).
And of course this quilt has a story …. if you follow me on Facebook, I shared some darling baby fabric on Friday…. and I do mean darling!!
So, here’s the story … I started out by cutting and ironing all my fabric. It was snowing (grrrr) and it was kinda dark in the house, but I had all my lights on.
After I got everything cut … I sat down at my sewing machine to sew the sashing on each block/rectangle and the super duper lights revealed some of the fabric had changed colors. Pink was almost a burnt orange. OMG (oh,my gosh) and WTH (what the heck)!!
Like a dodo bird … I bought some really darling fabric from an ad on Facebook. The minute I placed the order I was afraid I’d never see my fabric because it said you can expect it in 3 months … it didn’t take that long but when it arrived I noticed the fabric was kinda shiny and it did not feel like my normal fabric (Moda) but I thought it would be okay for a baby quilt.
Boy was I wrong and lesson learned!!! NEVER buy fabric from a pop up on Facebook (or check out their website before you do). Just in case you want to know the name … it was 100 Ultra Deals (I know the name should have told me something was up). But, in my defense the fabric was super cute (the pink especially). This concerns me because what if someone didn’t order from me because they found me on Facebook? I just hope people learn to visit the website before going to a shopping cart! The only good thing about it was it was dirt cheap … again, another red flag.
Now, back to my problem …. I needed more fabric and what was I going to do? I also cut one fabric in the wrong direction (my favorite) and I was another Fat Quarter short. By this time I was thinking “it’s not turning out be such a great birthday…. first the snow and now fake fabric”! grrrrrr
I went digging through my stash of fabric …. and luckily found a Fat Quarter that would work. Looking at the picture … can you tell me which row was the add on?
Once this quilt top has been quilted … I know I will love it (and I hope the person receiving it will as well).
Changing the subject before I sign off …. I guess you have figured it out that I’m no longer doing the Picture of the Day. For those of you that enjoyed them, I’m sorry! I have always wanted to do it … but here’s what it revealed:
- I work a lot!
- I rarely leave my house!
- What can you photograph when you rarely leave your home?
When I have something to share, I will and when I don’t, I won’t.
Log Cabin Quilt Along
I still have the Log Cabin Quilt Along on my calendar for this month … but … someone got in my head about lights and darks and I’m lacking confidence. I LOVE the quilt I made … but “should I call it something else, so that I don’t get flamed”? I don’t know why I can hear a 100 positive comments and still focus on the one negative (but I do)! To make my life easier … I’m going to use the same fabric (Ambleside) to film the video, it’s beautiful and I know where to place the fabric to make it look pretty.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!!

Hi Angie,
The quilt still looks cute. There are always going to be someone who doesn’t like the things you make or do but at least you are doing something that you enjoy and that make others happy.
Who says your log cabin quilt has to be like an original? It’s your own version of a log cabin quilt and that makes it a unique , one of a kind Angie style quilt. I enjoyed your daily pics and I understand you’re situation. Hope you still got to enjoy your birthday.

Hi Angie, I’m so gad I found your videos. I love your teaching style. I successfully finished my very first quilt. I followed your Jelly Roll Race Quilt video. Anyway, I was so proud and showed my coworkers only to receive comments such as “those colours don’t go together” (I used Moda Vintage Picnic collection) and “Quilts are not striped that’s not really a quilt”. Oh well, can’t please them all. I love the quilt and can’t wait to make more. I now need to learn to quilt my own, I brought this one to along arm quilter and it was pricey!

I’m so sorry to hear your coworkers gave you snarky comments! Jelly Roll Quilts are the easiest to make and I make them all the time because it doesn’t require me to think … I can just sit at my sewing machine and sew. Have you joined my Facebook Group … it’s Chic n Scratch Quilt Along .. I think all the ladies we have on there are very supportive.
