Quilt Along fabric

August 25, 2017 by Angie 12 Comments

I’ve decided on the next Quilt Along and I just need help choosing the fabric.

Here’s the choices ….

  • Glamper-licious (green)

  • Lucky Stars

  • Glamper-licious (Blue)

This is the quilt we’ll be making …. this was the quilt top I completed at Sew Day back in July.

I’ll be using 5 patterns of fabric – one yard each (technically you can use 1/2 yard for two of the patterns) and one White Layer Cake.

If  you’ve sent me an email asking when I’ll be doing the next quilt along … I told most of you that I was busy with work and couldn’t get to it.  But, some medical issues have cropped up again in this house and the best medicine for me is helping others (by teaching you a new quilt).

Have a great day and I’ll let you know which fabric we choose!

Here’s the fabric I have planned for project #1 tomorrow…. Bugsy by Christine Sharp & Rachel Wright

My project needs 5 – one yard pieces of fabric …. plus some white.  I’ll share more details about the project after sew day.

I’m not sure what my 2nd and 3rd project will be … I’ve been down with a headache all week and I’m behind on everything!! My house is a disaster and don’t get me started on how behind I am with work.  And we have NO FOOD in the house … I’m hoping Dave caves and goes shopping today (and that he cooks dinner too).   I’m telling myself that when August arrives things will get back to normal (as we have another trip coming up in a couple weeks).

See ya!

Baby Quilt

March 12, 2017 by Angie 9 Comments

Yesterday was my birthday and to celebrate …. I made a quilt and went to the movies with Chase (to see Logan).

Dave and I will be celebrating officially in Aruba … in May (more details about that later).

Here’s the baby quilt I made and excuse the lack of ironing!!  By the time I finished it was close to 1am (I could not go to bed without it finished).

And of course this quilt has a story …. if you follow me on Facebook, I shared some darling baby fabric on Friday…. and I do mean darling!!

So, here’s the story … I started out by cutting and ironing all my fabric.  It was snowing (grrrr) and it was kinda dark in the house, but I had all my lights on.

After I got everything cut … I sat down at my sewing machine to sew the sashing on each block/rectangle and the super duper lights revealed some of the fabric had changed colors.  Pink was almost a burnt orange.  OMG (oh,my gosh) and WTH (what the heck)!!

Like a dodo bird … I bought some really darling fabric from an ad on Facebook.  The minute I placed the order I was afraid I’d never see my fabric because it said you can expect it in 3 months … it didn’t take that long but when it arrived I noticed the fabric was kinda shiny and it did not feel like my normal fabric (Moda) but I thought it would be okay for a baby quilt.

Boy was I wrong and lesson learned!!!  NEVER buy fabric from a pop up on Facebook (or check out their website before you do).  Just in case you want to know the name … it was 100 Ultra Deals (I know the name should have told me something was up).  But, in my defense the fabric was super cute (the pink especially).   This concerns me because what if someone didn’t order from me because they found me on Facebook?   I just hope people learn to visit the website before going to a shopping cart!  The only good thing about it was it was dirt cheap … again, another red flag.

Now, back to my problem …. I needed more fabric and what was I going to do?    I also cut one fabric in the wrong direction (my favorite) and I was another Fat Quarter short.  By this time I was thinking “it’s not turning out be such a great birthday…. first the snow and now fake fabric”! grrrrrr

I went digging through my stash of fabric …. and luckily found a Fat Quarter that would work.  Looking at the picture … can you tell me which row was the add on?

Once this quilt top has been quilted … I know I will love it (and I hope the person receiving it will as well).

Changing the subject before I sign off …. I guess you have figured it out that I’m no longer doing the Picture of the Day.  For those of you that enjoyed them, I’m sorry!   I have always wanted to do it … but here’s what it revealed:

  1. I work a lot!
  2. I rarely leave my house!
  3. What can you photograph when you rarely leave your home?

When I have something to share, I will and when I don’t, I won’t.

Log Cabin Quilt Along

I still have the Log Cabin Quilt Along on my calendar for this month … but … someone got in my head about lights and darks and I’m lacking confidence.  I LOVE the quilt I made … but  “should I call it something else, so that I don’t get flamed”?  I don’t know why I can hear a 100 positive comments and still focus on the one negative (but I do)!  To make my life easier … I’m going to use the same fabric (Ambleside) to film the video, it’s beautiful and I know where to place the fabric to make it look pretty.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!!

Picture of the Day #42

February 11, 2017 by Angie Leave a Comment

My picture of the Day #41 is what I’m working on today (in my spare time).

Actually I have 6 videos that have to be filmed today!! So, I can edit tomorrow …. but the noise outside is hindering me from recording.   I love my neighborhood, and we choose it for the people …. but, on days like today, I say I want to move!!!

Back to the darling fabric …. I am making another Log Cabin Quilt …. (my way) except this time … I’m going to try to not place the fabric where I want it … just a hodgepodge of strips.

I am afraid I may not like it but I need to see how it looks with careful planning verses not careful planning.

The reason is …. when I was looking for new fabric for the Quilt Along … I found very few that would work like the Ambleside Fabric … or maybe I didn’t look hard enough.  With the Ambleside …. I had four color blocks (pink, blue, green, gray) … and each used 8 patterns of fabric.  8 x 4 = 32 strips … LOL   Now look at the fabric above …. it can’t be done.  There isn’t 8 fabrics of blue or 8 fabrics of gold/yellow … hence the reason why I’m going hodgepodge.

After typing all that … you see why I don’t sleep much … I over think  just about everything.  I’m not complaining …. I tell my kids it’s worked in my benefit (I think).

Here’s some more math for ya ….  I’m using the entire jelly roll this time!

  • 5″ Blocks – 24 – vanilla charm pack
  • 2-1/2 x 7 – 48
  • 2-1/2 x 9 – 48
  • 2-1/2 x 11 – 48
  • 2-1/2 x 13 – 24
  • + sashing – Vanilla jelly roll

Gotta run … have a good day!
