Picture of the day #36

February 5, 2017 by Angie 4 Comments

I’m happy to share that my Picture of the day #36 is of my Log Cabin Quilt … on my Quilt Wall!

I needed the Design Wall for two reasons …

  1. To figure out how to place my blocks so that the end result would look beautiful!
  2. If adding sashing, would it make me like it more or less?

I figured out the placement lickety split … and YES to the sashing.

Notes (that may or may not make sense)…

  • I’m wondering … is this still considered a log cabin quilt if I started with a 5″ square in the middle and then built it out?
  • Each block measures 12.5″ – (before I add sashing to 12 of them).  I could add more pieces to make the square larger …maybe I’ll try that down the road (after I’ve made a few).
  • Each block has a 5″ charm square in middle and then 8 jelly roll strips.
  • I only have four blocks of each color because I eliminated the Red and Yellow Strips (I did not use 8 of the Jelly Roll Strips that would have given us 4 more blocks).
  • I have to figure out how to do the Quilt Along … using all the fabric in a Jelly Roll.  (I should not have eliminated the two colors on my test quilt!! But, in my defense I’m keeping this one for myself and I just had to use the colors I LOVED!
  • Did not intend on this quilt being a square … but it is!
  • I could open another jelly roll and make one more block of each color …. but wouldn’t that just make it a bigger square … yep!
  • Last thing … I LOVE having each block be all the same color … but I’m thinking it may be harder to do with some Jelly Rolls.  So I need to make another one … using all the fabric … randomly… but can I?  Now I understand why people want to use the exact same fabric as I do … it takes away all the thinking … LOL
  • I should be able start filming the Log Cabin Quilt Along very soon!!!  When I set a goal of one Quilt Along a quarter … it made me jump into action 🙂

Gotta get back to work and I pray I get it all done so I can sew while Dave watches the super bowl.  (I moved the breakfast room table closer to the living room … so I can say “I’m with you honey” as he watches the game.)

Have a good day!

Log Cabin Quilt – WIP

February 4, 2017 by Angie 1 Comment

My picture of the Day #35 is the beginning of my Log Cabin Quilt.

I know I said yesterday that I was going to work …. and if I finished I would work on the log cabin quilt.  But, I woke up and decided I deserved a day of rest/sewing.

By the time I finished, I completed 16 blocks.

I think I’m going to LOVE this quilt …. but … it is very time-consuming!

I cut, I sewed, I pressed, I squared up the block … repeat on all 8 pieces of each block.  Yes, I spent 8 hours on 16 blocks.   That was my doing, I could have cut all the pieces and thrown them together … but I carefully placed each piece where I thought it belonged.

I’ll share more pictures soon!!

See ya!

Happy New Year!

January 1, 2017 by Angie 7 Comments

Happy New Year!!

I don’t know about  you but I always get motivated by the New Year and I get really excited about making some changes (or improvements)!

My list is long this year!!  I have set some personal goals and some business goals and the first order of business is ME.

I think as moms we often put ourselves last and even though my children are grown, I still find myself putting me last.

So, this year I’m going to focus on my personal health and wellness and lose some weight!

I always say I’m going to lose weight in January … and then February hits and I’m too busy to do so.  I’m at the age that I must focus on my well being or otherwise it’s only going to get worse.   The crazy thing is … I cut almost all the sugar out of my diet last year and it did not make a single dent in my weight …. grrrrr

So, what’s new for this site?   I’ve wanted to do this for years and I’ve tried and failed a few times…. I’d like to share a Picture a Day.

Here’s my Picture of the Day #1 (although the picture was taken last week).

We went to the lake house for Christmas and I took a whole suitcase of fabric thinking I might get some sewing in …. but…. I pretty much stayed in the kitchen all week! I’m not complaining, I loved having the whole family together, especially since Chase moved out in July, but there was very little down time (only took one nap).

After Christmas I did manage to finally finish one of my Christmas Quilts.  I finished it at night … left the next morning and I don’t have a picture of the finished quilt (yet).

Back to the Picture of the Day ….. it will be totally random!!!

I wish I could say it would be fabric and quilting but there will be very little sewing in the next few months (I will try to film the next Quilt Along at lake house, the next time I go).

I have to start planning meals, grocery shopping, cooking and exercising.  That will take approximately two hours of my day (I currently eat whatever is the quickest so I can get back to work).

If you’re wondering….  what diet am I doing?  I don’t know yet.  I’ve done lots of research on many different programs and because I’m allergic to dairy, my options are limited.  Diets that have meals and protein bars and shakes, are not an option … again dairy allergy and an intolerance to artificial sweeteners.

So, although I haven’t decided what diet to start …. I started my daily walk on the treadmill today (have I mentioned how much I hate to sweat).

I could rattle on forever but I must get off here and get some work done (and check on the baby eagle).  My latest obsession…. don’t look at the video if it bothers you to see a dead fish.  Those eagles are great providers and there’s been a dead fish or two in the nest for the last 48 hours.

I hope you  have a wonderful day!!

p.s. I don’t know what’s going on with my blog … I updated WordPress this morning and now my site is all wonky.  I will try to get it fixed this week (one more thing to add to my to do list…. grrrr).

Christmas Quilts

Before we talk about the Christmas Quilts I’m working on I have need to say I’m very sorry!!!!

I didn’t realize that my lack of posting would scare some of you and that you would think I or my husband were sick.  We are both doing well and I’m happy to say that this year!! ( This time last year Dave was recovering from one surgery and preparing for another.)

So, where have I been?  Everywhere but here I guess you could say!

When I discovered that I had worried some people I started thinking about the reasons and it simply boils down to LIFE.

One thing that came to me was… when I don’t feel well … I SEW! Or if a family member is ill … I SEW!

When I feel well… I WORK and let’s face it my work is pretty fun too!  But when I don’t feel well, sewing is easy and requires very little thought process.

In addition to working, I’ve been refinishing some furniture for the lake house. My friend Tracey found a beautiful table for me at Salvation Army and she and I refinished it and all six chairs.  After the fact, I’m almost wishing I had bought new… but… I have enjoyed saying “I did this” (along with help from Tracey).  We also re-did a 6 foot church pew (will take pictures soon).

Now to the subject of sewing/quilting.  I’ve started a few quilts .. but started is as far as I got.

The fabric I choose for my 2nd Christmas Quilt is Cookie Exchange (you need one yard each of three fabrics).

After I placed it on my design wall … I decided that I don’t like it.  I think it needs a fourth fabric … or something to break it up!

Sorry bad picture (took picture at night)!!

Over the Christmas break I’m going to place it back on my design wall and see what it would look like using an Ivory Jelly Roll.

This may be the last post I share in a while (unless several of you tell me to just post random stuff).  I’m working on a new program for my Stampin’ Up! business and I’m launching it in a few weeks and as much as I’d like to do both, there just aren’t enough hours in the day.

I do plan on offering more Quilt Alongs … but, they will be spaced apart.  My goal is one a quarter for 2017 and ideally I would like to do two but I also know that I have to set realistic goals for myself and I’m pretty sure one a quarter is doable.

If I don’t see you before December 25th… Have a Merry Christmas!!
