Happy New Year!!
I don’t know about you but I always get motivated by the New Year and I get really excited about making some changes (or improvements)!
My list is long this year!! I have set some personal goals and some business goals and the first order of business is ME.
I think as moms we often put ourselves last and even though my children are grown, I still find myself putting me last.
So, this year I’m going to focus on my personal health and wellness and lose some weight!
I always say I’m going to lose weight in January … and then February hits and I’m too busy to do so. I’m at the age that I must focus on my well being or otherwise it’s only going to get worse. The crazy thing is … I cut almost all the sugar out of my diet last year and it did not make a single dent in my weight …. grrrrr
So, what’s new for this site? I’ve wanted to do this for years and I’ve tried and failed a few times…. I’d like to share a Picture a Day.
Here’s my Picture of the Day #1 (although the picture was taken last week).
We went to the lake house for Christmas and I took a whole suitcase of fabric thinking I might get some sewing in …. but…. I pretty much stayed in the kitchen all week! I’m not complaining, I loved having the whole family together, especially since Chase moved out in July, but there was very little down time (only took one nap).
After Christmas I did manage to finally finish one of my Christmas Quilts. I finished it at night … left the next morning and I don’t have a picture of the finished quilt (yet).
Back to the Picture of the Day ….. it will be totally random!!!
I wish I could say it would be fabric and quilting but there will be very little sewing in the next few months (I will try to film the next Quilt Along at lake house, the next time I go).
I have to start planning meals, grocery shopping, cooking and exercising. That will take approximately two hours of my day (I currently eat whatever is the quickest so I can get back to work).
If you’re wondering…. what diet am I doing? I don’t know yet. I’ve done lots of research on many different programs and because I’m allergic to dairy, my options are limited. Diets that have meals and protein bars and shakes, are not an option … again dairy allergy and an intolerance to artificial sweeteners.
So, although I haven’t decided what diet to start …. I started my daily walk on the treadmill today (have I mentioned how much I hate to sweat).
I could rattle on forever but I must get off here and get some work done (and check on the baby eagle). My latest obsession…. don’t look at the video if it bothers you to see a dead fish. Those eagles are great providers and there’s been a dead fish or two in the nest for the last 48 hours.
I hope you have a wonderful day!!
p.s. I don’t know what’s going on with my blog … I updated WordPress this morning and now my site is all wonky. I will try to get it fixed this week (one more thing to add to my to do list…. grrrr).

Hi Angie,
I wish the very best for you. I have lost 22 pounds in a month just by cutting out sugar and watching my carbs. I have another 50-60 pounds I want to lose. I was diagnosed pre- diabetic in early November so if I don’t want to become diabetic I need to make changes and every morning I check my sugar levels. My ideal sugar level is to be 120 or less. Everyone’s is different so check with your doctor. This past month they were a little higher than what I was supposed to be at and I know why(holiday sweets) but I do have to say I was still on control not to over indulge . I have been a soda and chip person since my twenties and it has caught up to me. My starting weight was 212 and now it’s 190.i am going to get back on the treadmill for at least 30 minutes a day. I work at a job where I’m on my feet walking all day except for my hour lunch and two fifteen minute breaks. I haven’t had any sweet drinks but I have had some candy. I feel that I can get back on track. So if you feel you failed one day just get back up and try again . So far my food change is not easy to find good choices but I keep looking. I look for fruits in low sugars and foods with low carbs to none. I am proud of what I have accomplished so far and it’s going to be a challenge and I am going to beat this diabetics. If you don’t mind we could share our accomplishments.

Hang in there Lesa, we are pulling for you! Remember a lot times when we think we are hungry, it is usually because our body needs water. Make sure to drink plenty of water. 🙂

The best diet to go on, is to go to a dietitian and have them look at what you are eating. They can help to steer you on the correct path that will bring a lifetime of healthy eating habits and it usually doesn’t hurt either! 🙂

Thanks Mary!

Sometimes I think a boot camp for women approaching there 50’s and plus would be a good thing. Learn how to live in this new body. Seems since I turned 50 my whole system has changed. I’ve had to learn different ways to care for my skin and hair and not to mention change what and how I eat.
One tip I can give you on not reaching for the junk…well maybe two…is first don’t put the fast food in the cabinets. Second make a large pot of soup regularly and freeze single serve portions for your lunch meal.
Keep your favorite fruit on hand.
Before you go to bed the night before remove soup from freezer to fridge.
Next day heat soup and serve your soup in your FAVORITE DISH with your fruit and beverage…NOT COLAS or anything with splenda (splenda is said to kill the good bacteria in your system).
And have you vitamin D checked.
Happy New Year, wishing you great success.
