February 2, 2015 by Angie 2 Comments

The Indie Chic Quilt Top is complete and ready for the longarm quilter.

I have to say that this quilt has turn out to be one of my favorites and I’m tempted to make another one for myself!!

To make this quilt you need one Indie Chic by Riley Blake Rolie Polie.

If you would like to learn how to make a Jelly Roll Quilt … CLICK HERE for my tutorial.

Short blog post today … we’re having internet issues again and I’m headed upstairs to call the cable company again  … for the 2nd time today.  We are counting the days until Google Fiber comes to our neighborhood!!!

See ya!

Indie Chic Quilt

My picture today is of all 1600 inches of the Indie Chic by Riley Blake Rolie Polie sewn together.

Did the word Rolie Polie throw you?   Let me explain … Moda Fabrics term is Jelly Roll … and Riley Blake Fabrics is Rolie Polie.  Both measure 2-1/2 x 44″ (although sometimes you can buy a smaller version of both).  If you’re making a Jelly Roll Race Quilt … you want 40 strips that measure 2.5 x 44.

I was tempted to string the 1600 inches  along my whole house to show you how long that one strip is ….but I decided it would look better wrapped around my dress form!!

I have a whopper headache again today (I believe it’s the weather) so I’m going to  stop here … I hope you’re having a fantastic day!

See ya!

Fancy Free Jelly Roll Quilt

My picture today is another Jelly Roll Quilt …. they’re so easy to make you can’t make just one!

The fabric is Fancy Free by Lori Whitlock for Riley Blake Design and you will see this fabric again … and again!  (I bought a bunch of it because the colors are so pretty.)

The Jelly Roll Quilts measure approximately 54 x 64.

Before I sign off today I need to add that I’m sharing all the these pictures of my quilts now …but I did not make them this week.  I’ve just been saving them to show you after I posted the video.  I knew the minute I shared that first picture that some of you would want a video tutorial 🙂

See ya!

p.s. I was going to film four videos for Chic n Scratch today …and I woke up to my credit card being compromised … and I’ve spent the day changing passwords … grrrrr    I knew it was time to change my passwords and it was on my list of things to do … but kept getting pushed back.  So, I’m sharing it because if you do anything online …. change your passwords often!

Sewing Supplies

Here’s a list of items you need to get started quilting:

I’ve added a link to Amazon for most of the items … the link will take you to what I use …but you may be able to find the product cheaper at one of your local stores.  For example the Creative Grid ruler I use … is about 8 dollars cheaper at my local store.

  • Sewing Machine
  • Rotary Cutter
  • Self Healing Cutting Mat
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Thread
  • Seam Ripper
  • Quilting Pins
  • Pin Cushion
  • 1/4 Foot with guide is most helpful but not necessary
  • Iron
  • Ironing pad or board
  • Clear Starch
  • Fabric

On the video below I show you each of these items.  If you’re viewing this in your email please visit my site to watch the video.

Sewing Machines

I currently have three sewing machines …

  1. Bernina Aurora 440 Quilters Edition
  2. Bernina Activa 230
  3. Juki TL-2010Q

Now for some history on my sewing machines…. I started with a Viking and it was a great starter machine.  But once I heard a Bernina ….. I was sold….. the machine purrs!!   (Not everyone is bothered by smells and sounds … if that’s the case any machine will do.)

My main machine is the Bernina Quilters Edition  …..  the Activa 230 is the machine I keep at the lake house (and will travel with it … it has it’s very own suitcase on wheels) and the Juki is my latest machine for super fast sewing.  It’s a simple machine and very easy to understand … it lacks a lot of bells and whistles which equals less confusion … if you know what I mean.

My Viking machine is currently living with my sister Kim ….  in the hopes that I can get her to quilt!!

If you are just getting started … my advice is start with a machine you can afford … you may fall in love or you may hate sewing.  I never regretted buying the Viking it was truly a great machine and at the time in my budget.    Another tip is look for sales … when I bought my Activa 230 …. it was on sale (I received a post card in the mail and it was perfect timing).

My favorite places to shop online for fabric and quilting supplies …..

  • Fat Quarter Shop
  • Missouri Quilt
  • Hancocks of Paducah
  • Amazon

See ya!

p.s. I’ve received some requests for purses …. and I will add it to my list of possibilities …but … a few years back I contacted two different ladies about me filming a video using their pattern (that I purchased) and they both said NO.  In my opinion it would have probably sold a lot of their patterns …but their fear was that since my video demonstrated how to make it … they would lose sales on selling their pattern.   Long story short … I’m not in a position that I can create my own patterns (it takes me a lot of trials  …. and errors to get it right) but …. if I find someone that has patterns and they’re okay with me filming a video …. I’d be happy to do so!!
