Autumn Lily Quilt

February 3, 2015 by Angie 10 Comments

I’m happy to say the Autumn Lily Quilt Top is complete!!

This quilt was almost the death of me …. I’m just kidding …. but  ….. I will say the next time I mess up a quilt top I’m gonna donate it to charity!

Here’s the rest of the story  ……

A typical Jelly Roll Race Quilt is made by opening the Jelly Roll and you sew the strips together.  My first one turned out beautifully …. so I assumed they all would…. that is not the case!!  See picture below (when you compare the top picture with this one … Holy Cow!).

Since I did not like the look of it … I decided to order another Jelly Roll and this time I would place the fabric where I wanted (see picture below).

It was going to be a beauty!!  I could just tell by the picture directly above.

Until I forgot to cut 18″ off the end of the 1600 strip.  When someone says “this is the most important step” they are not joking!!

I was sick …. how could I mess up another one … of the same fabric?  In my defense there is a lot going on in this house and to say I’m overwhelmed is an understatement (lane swerve here … .. Brooke is not moving out after all … Thank God!!).

After throwing a small fit … I decided I’d just start cutting and see what I could come up with …. it too was not working …. I did not take pictures … it was too awful to share.

The next day it hit me …. make those strips smaller and tear about the first quilt I made and combine the two…. are you cracking up?   I’m not sure how I pulled it off …but the end result is beautiful.

I have a habit of saying things that either annoy people or make them laugh (Laura keeps saying I need to start a list and give them a name…maybe one day)  … so here it goes … while making this quilt I seriously wanted to give up … as we often do when things don’t go right …but I stuck with it and as usual it was worth the pain.  I’m being a little dramatic but … often times things that bring us pain on the front side  … end up being worth it in the long run.

I can’t wait to get this one back from the longarm quilter!

See ya!

The Indie Chic Quilt Top is complete and ready for the longarm quilter.

I have to say that this quilt has turn out to be one of my favorites and I’m tempted to make another one for myself!!

To make this quilt you need one Indie Chic by Riley Blake Rolie Polie.

If you would like to learn how to make a Jelly Roll Quilt … CLICK HERE for my tutorial.

Short blog post today … we’re having internet issues again and I’m headed upstairs to call the cable company again  … for the 2nd time today.  We are counting the days until Google Fiber comes to our neighborhood!!!

See ya!

Indie Chic Quilt

My picture today is of all 1600 inches of the Indie Chic by Riley Blake Rolie Polie sewn together.

Did the word Rolie Polie throw you?   Let me explain … Moda Fabrics term is Jelly Roll … and Riley Blake Fabrics is Rolie Polie.  Both measure 2-1/2 x 44″ (although sometimes you can buy a smaller version of both).  If you’re making a Jelly Roll Race Quilt … you want 40 strips that measure 2.5 x 44.

I was tempted to string the 1600 inches  along my whole house to show you how long that one strip is ….but I decided it would look better wrapped around my dress form!!

I have a whopper headache again today (I believe it’s the weather) so I’m going to  stop here … I hope you’re having a fantastic day!

See ya!

p.s. my appointment with the Rheumatologist is tomorrow morning 🙂

Fancy Free Jelly Roll Quilt

My picture today is another Jelly Roll Quilt …. they’re so easy to make you can’t make just one!

The fabric is Fancy Free by Lori Whitlock for Riley Blake Design and you will see this fabric again … and again!  (I bought a bunch of it because the colors are so pretty.)

The Jelly Roll Quilts measure approximately 54 x 64.

Before I sign off today I need to add that I’m sharing all the these pictures of my quilts now …but I did not make them this week.  I’ve just been saving them to show you after I posted the video.  I knew the minute I shared that first picture that some of you would want a video tutorial 🙂

See ya!

p.s. I was going to film four videos for Chic n Scratch today …and I woke up to my credit card being compromised … and I’ve spent the day changing passwords … grrrrr    I knew it was time to change my passwords and it was on my list of things to do … but kept getting pushed back.  So, I’m sharing it because if you do anything online …. change your passwords often!
