Mixed Bag Quilt update

January 20, 2015 by Angie 4 Comments

My goal for this site is to share a picture with all of you …. at least 6 days a week … and the only picture I have today is of the progress I made on the Mixed Bag Quilt.

While I was cooking dinner last night ….  I sewed all the 4 x 6 pieces to the 6 x 6 pieces.  It’s super easy because I start with the first one and I do all of them without getting up … or without cutting the thread.   There is a term for it ….  but the words fail me at the moment!

The next step is ironing all the seams so that I can attach the 4 x 10 strips of fabric.

I had my appointment with the chiropractor today  ….. we’re trying natural methods and medicine until I can see my doctor on the 30th (muscle relaxers …etc).  She worked on my arms, neck and shoulders today…. she said my throat and neck felt like I’d been in a bad car wreck and she kept asking me if I was sure I hadn’t hurt myself (not that I remember).

I have a funny little story for you … I called my aunt today to see if anyone in our family has a history of rheumatoid arthritis and I discovered that she and I share this weird fact …. We both get sleepy when we take Advil.  Go figure!  I’m just happy to know I’m not alone … it always feels weird telling people …but I swear it makes me very sleepy!

I had about 3 hours of sleep last night so I’m turing in early!!

See ya!

Mixed Bag Quilt

While Dave was watching the football game last night  … I was cutting fabric (sitting at the dining room table … just a few feet from him …. that qualifies for spending time together doesn’t it?).

Excuse the picture …. it was dark outside!

And as usual I found myself not being able to sleep this morning … so I placed my fabric on the design wall.

My first attempt was so awful … I won’t be showing you that one … the color mixture was yucky in my opinion. (Every time I say “in my opinion” I can hear the judge from the Good Wife say “do you mean in your opinion”?  Those scenes crack me up!!!)

The picture below is option 1 ….. if you want to provide feedback on which one you like better feel free to post a comment …. or send me an email (but …. if I don’t sleep again tonight we may wake up to a finished quilt).

The next picture is Option 2 and it’s the one I have on the Design Wall currently …  but … I think I may like the first one.  I may proceed with option two … just because it will be easier to not change it back.

I think …. but not sure that this quilt will be for one of my nieces (when I’ve wrapped up the quilt top I’ll send her mother a picture …asking for approval).

Are you ready for a laugh?   In between option one and option two … I bent down to see what Miss Bella was trying to get from under the chair ….. and when I raised up … I hit my head on the bannister.  Yep, I had a good cry and then picked myself up and finished the blocks.  Don’t feel bad … I am always doing stuff like this!!! (Hence the reason why I say I have two left feet.)

See ya!

p.s. still waiting on call from doctor that the specialist has been approved.

Mixed Bag

This is the fabric I’ve chosen for my next project  …… it’s Mixed Bag by Studio M.

I’m making the Layer Cake Quilt and this one will be pattern 2 … click here to view Pattern 1.

My first step is I’m going to cut all the 10″ squares and I’ll end up with  …

  • 42 pieces that measure 4 x 10
  • 42 pieces that measure 6 x 6
  • 42 pieces that measure 6 x 4

Some one ask me when I find time to quilt  … the answer is ….  I squeeze in time whenever I can.  For example … cooking dinner … I rush over to my sewing machine… while the food is cooking.  You’d be amazed at how much you can get done sewing for 5 or 10 minutes (as long as the fabric is pre-cut).  If the meal takes an hour to cook or prepare .. that usually gives me at least 20 minutes of sewing ….  maybe more.

I’m not sure when I’ll start the quilt …..but it’s on the dining room table calling my name!!  I’m headed to my office now to film some videos for Stamp Club Online and Chic n Clique ….. I pray my strength holds out long enough for me to get them all filmed.

See ya!

Quilting Raskog

January 16, 2015 by Angie 12 Comments

I LOVE the Raskog cart from Ikea!!!

So much so that I have three of them  … the one you see here is my Quilting Cart.  I love it because I can roll it around the entire main floor of my house!

I occasionally have all my quilting stuff  ….. on every surface (especially when Dave goes fishing)!!

I cut fabric on the breakfast room table.  See picture below … I have a Megamat that I place on top (next time I get it out I’ll share a picture).

Kitchen

I iron on the island (perfect height!!!).

I sew on the dining room table …. see picture below ….

Dining Room

Back to the carts …. the other two are in my office.  One holds all the supplies for when I film papercrafting videos.  The other one holds all my Project Life supplies.

If you look closely at the quilting cart … you’ll see the Antonius Basket Insert …. also found at Ikea.

Now for the personal stuff …  my health…..

My doctor is referring me to a Rheumatologist …. which means we are getting closer to finding the source of pain.  After I talked to the nurse I called daddy to tell him the news and we both had a light bulb moment (or I did).  When I was a child I was diagnosed with Rheumatism  … my legs hurt something awful and when it rained they hurt even worse.  The only treatment I remember was eating a lot of bananas.  Fast forward to adulthood … legs still ached when it rained … but it was manageable … especially when I no longer lived and worked on a farm.   Here’s the real kicker … when we moved to Kansas …. my knee never hurt again …but my wrists did …so much so that I wore a copper bracelet for years.  It worked … the pain went away …so I stopped wearing it.  How in the world did I forget that?

A new copper bracelet is on it’s way to my house … thanks to Amazon 🙂   It may help … it may not … but it sure can’t hurt!

The next step is …. I’m waiting to get approval from my insurance company to see a specialist (hopefully early next week).

For those of you reading my blog that have chronic pain …. I think of all of you every day and I hope you find relief one day!!!

Have a good night!!
