Layer Cake Quilt 1 Pattern

January 15, 2015 by Angie Leave a Comment

The quilt I made daddy was designed on a piece of paper (love my notepads from Ikea).

And I tried to create a pattern for everyone using Pages on a Mac …. and although I love Pages and my Mac … it was NOT working.

So, I broke down and bought the software  … Electric Quilt 7 …. I still think it’s a bit much for me and my simple quilting …but it allows me to see what the quilt will look like …. before I begin.

For example … if I had drawn the Layer Cake Quilt instead of flying by the seat of my seats I would have alternated rows…. I think.  I’ve completed the first diagram ….but …. what if I change it around … will I like it more or less?  Because I’m a visual person I really don’t know until I see it.

The picture below is diagram one … and just as soon as I get diagram two complete I’ll share it.  I’m thinking that row two and every other row will be switched.  Special Note:  This diagram only shows four patterns of fabric … but in fact it uses every single pattern of fabric in a Layer Cake.  (It was much easier using three instead of 10.)

How do I word this?   On Row Two ….  I’ll start with block two instead of block one … but in my experience .. or I should say lack of experience … I’ve found making changes sometimes creates a new issue.

Gott run ….. I have a doctors appointment today  and another one as soon as I can see the Rheumatologist (waiting on them to call me).  That’s about all I know right now  … when I know I’ll be sure to let you know.

See ya!

Sleepy Head

Miss-Bellaa

I was walking around the house today looking for a picture to take … and I saw Miss Bella on the stairs and said “that’s exactly how I feel”.  I just want to lay down … so I snapped her picture (and then gave her a hug).

My goal is to share a picture a day  … yesterday I did a few hours of work and I managed to post a picture on Chic n Scratch ….. but not here.  Vice versa today!

I can’t believe I’m going to say this but I feel worse … if I could just find a way to sleep …. that did not cause pain.  I know the lack of sleep is probably half my battle!

I haven’t touched a stamp since last Wednesday and the only time I’ve touched my sewing machine was to sew the rows together on my daddys quilt …. less than 3o minutes of sewing …  I know that isn’t the problem.

Oh well, maybe the doctor will call tomorrow … I know she said some of the tests take a while.  I’m ready to ask for pain meds …but I really do not want to go that route unless I have no choice. I’ve also given up on drinking wine ….for fear that it was making things worse. I’ve had one glass in the last month … on New Years Eve.

Here’s another picture of Miss Bella …. in the bed with me a few days ago …. isn’t she the cutest thing ever?

Ring of Fire

January 11, 2015 by Angie Leave a Comment

It’s Sunday and I’m going to call it my story day (at least for today).

So, my normal routine of the day is I wake up, feed Miss Bella and grab a cup of coffee as soon as I can make my way over to the coffee pot.

Next up depends on how I feel … if I’m dog tired I’ll sit down and watch some TV on my Kindle Fire (I’m currently on Season 7 of NCIS) … if I feel slightly okay I’ll check out Facebook and if I feel good I’ll go straight to checking email (because of the volume of email I get … I have to be prepared to do battle … I’m just joking ….. but it can be stressful to watch the count go from 3 thousand to 4 thousand in a 24 hour period).

This morning I woke up feeling slightly okay … so I went to Facebook … and this is where I fell down the rabbit hole!

So, here it goes … I discovered the video you’ll see below … then listened to it about 4 times before I reposted it on my Facebook Wall.  Then I spent the next two hours … researching the band (Facebook, website, google) … then the artist that appeared in one of their videos (googled that person) … and then to the Walk the Line movie version of Ring of Fire.

That’s what I mean by “I fell down the Rabbit Hole”!  I have a million things to do and I get obsessed on a song.

Oh well, I’m past it now …. kinda sorta!  (although I do want to watch the movie tonight.)

Before I end I’ll share a little story with you … Every time we hear Ring of Fire in our house … we laugh!!  The Walk the Line movie came out when my children were in middle school … and I tend to get fixated on a soundtrack or a CD.  Chase and Brooke had to listen to the Walk the Line soundtrack for so long that they memorized the words ….. not realizing they had done so …until there was an event at the school and the Ring of Fire song came on …. and Chase started singing it… word for word.  I wasn’t there … didn’t see it but I guess the kids thought it was funny that he knew the song and knew all the words.  (It’s way funnier when Chase tells the story!!!)

Here’s the Walk the Line movie version (I love Johnny’s version but I love this one too!).

See ya!

p.s. I used the picture from Walk the Line for my post …. I figured it was better than a picture that did not relate.

Layer Cake Quilt Complete

daddysquiltfinishedb

The next time you see this quilt ….. it will be complete.

I finished sewing the rows together  …. completing the quilt top.  The backing fabric arrived today and it’s ready for the long arm quilter.

Daddy’s birthday is in March ….. it should be ready in plenty of time.

When I make the next Layer Cake Quilt …. I will try making it 6 Blocks across and 7 down.  This one is 5 blocks across and 8 down … making it narrow and long.  After I change it … I may decide to keep it 8 blocks down and just add a few blocks across…. maybe going from 5 to 7.  But when we do that … it will take more than one Layer Cake.

The next picture I’m sharing today is of our breakfast room … it’s decorated for one of Brooke’s friends.  We’re having her birthday party at our house and they’ve been working on it since yesterday.  They’ve done a great job!!  The only help they got from me was I removed all my stuff and I cleaned (yes that means we moved my office back down to the basement … as well as all my sewing stuff … insert sad face!)

The party is officially taking place at this moment … Miss Bella and I are in bed.
