Lulu Roses Quilt Top Complete

February 11, 2015 by Angie 2 Comments

Lulurosesquiltopfinal

The Lulu Roses Quilt top is ready for the longarm quilter.

I’ll give you some of the details now ….but I’ll post the rest of the details later …

I’ve had two ladies ask if I was going to film a video on how to make this quilt … the answer is I’d be happy to ….but ….. this quilt measures 66 x 75 and to be honest I prefer making smaller quilts.  So, I’ll rework my blocks and come up with a smaller size…. it will be the same … just a tad smaller (to make it larger all you do is add more blocks).

  • I used 8 patterns of Fabric … with one White Jelly Row (could be more .. I made some tweaks along the way).
  • It’s 8 rows across … 9 rows down for a total of 72 blocks that measure 6-1/2 x 6-1/2 (plus the extra strips that measure 2-1/2 x 6-1/2).
  • I used 6-1/2 x 6-1/2 squares …cut with the AccuQuilt 6-1/2 square die.
  • For the sashing I sewed two jelly roll strips together (for a total of 88 inches … I trimmed the extra).

After making this quilt I’ve decided that I really like making quick and easy quilts and although this quilt was easy …. it was not as quick as I would have liked!!  My next quilt will be something really quick … like maybe another flower or butterfly quilt.

I’ll try to take a better picture tomorrow …. if you don’t see it …. you’ll know I was unsuccessful and I’ll be looking for a way to take a picture of larger quilt.

FYI …  the Raskog cart from Ikea is on sale this week for $29.99 … I’m headed over there tomorrow to buy two more for the lake house!!

See ya!

p.s. thanks for all the kind words about my health and for leaving comments!!! I read every single one of them … usually twice.  I don’t always comment …. but I really enjoy reading them.  Thank YOU!!!

Delivered to longarm quilter

My picture today is of my breakfast room table … covered with the quilt tops I took to the long arm quilter.

I can’t wait to see them finished!!   I’ll be sure to photograph each and every one of them.

It’s been a crazy day!!  I took Miss Bella to the vet this morning and it turns out she has a bladder infection.  Bless her heart!

After I brought Miss Bella home I took the quilts to the longarm quilter … then I was off to see my chiropractor.  I’m totally exhausted and ready for a bath and bed!!

For those of you interested in my health issues …. I’ll be posting an update to the Health page tonight.

See ya!

Atelier Jelly Roll Quilt

February 5, 2015 by Angie 9 Comments

AtelierJellyRollQuiltb

Today’s picture is another Jelly Roll Quilt and I made it with the Atelier Jelly Roll 3 Sisters for Moda Fabrics.

I believe this is the last Jelly Roll Quilt I’ll be making for a while!

The reason I choose this quilt is because it’s really easy …. you can sit at your machine for a few hours and boom it’s done!

Click here if you’d like to see a video on how to make a Jelly Roll Quilt.

I can’t believe I’m going to say this but it’s late, I’m exhausted and I’m headed to bed ….. goodnight (at 7:30pm) LOL

Autumn Lily Quilt

February 3, 2015 by Angie 10 Comments

I’m happy to say the Autumn Lily Quilt Top is complete!!

This quilt was almost the death of me …. I’m just kidding …. but  ….. I will say the next time I mess up a quilt top I’m gonna donate it to charity!

Here’s the rest of the story  ……

A typical Jelly Roll Race Quilt is made by opening the Jelly Roll and you sew the strips together.  My first one turned out beautifully …. so I assumed they all would…. that is not the case!!  See picture below (when you compare the top picture with this one … Holy Cow!).

Since I did not like the look of it … I decided to order another Jelly Roll and this time I would place the fabric where I wanted (see picture below).

It was going to be a beauty!!  I could just tell by the picture directly above.

Until I forgot to cut 18″ off the end of the 1600 strip.  When someone says “this is the most important step” they are not joking!!

I was sick …. how could I mess up another one … of the same fabric?  In my defense there is a lot going on in this house and to say I’m overwhelmed is an understatement (lane swerve here … .. Brooke is not moving out after all … Thank God!!).

After throwing a small fit … I decided I’d just start cutting and see what I could come up with …. it too was not working …. I did not take pictures … it was too awful to share.

The next day it hit me …. make those strips smaller and tear about the first quilt I made and combine the two…. are you cracking up?   I’m not sure how I pulled it off …but the end result is beautiful.

I have a habit of saying things that either annoy people or make them laugh (Laura keeps saying I need to start a list and give them a name…maybe one day)  … so here it goes … while making this quilt I seriously wanted to give up … as we often do when things don’t go right …but I stuck with it and as usual it was worth the pain.  I’m being a little dramatic but … often times things that bring us pain on the front side  … end up being worth it in the long run.

I can’t wait to get this one back from the longarm quilter!

See ya!
