JOL Fat Quarter Bundle

October 16, 2016 by Angie 6 Comments

JOL Fat Quarter Bundle  Wenche Wolff Hatling for Moda Fabrics

jol-fat-quarter-bundle

I started a new Bricks Quilt last night using the JOL Fat Quarter Bundle.

The Bundle came with 30 Fat Quarters and I had to decide if I was going to use the Chocolate color or the Gray  … Gray is really in right now … but brown/chocolate really matches my house better.  Plus I can always make another one using the grays.

For this quilt I’m going to make it larger  … instead of 7 Fat Quarters I’m using 9. Making it 9 rows across and 6 rows down.  My fear is  … will this quilt be too wide? Where as the other one is a tad long.  I will decide once I put it on my Design Wall.  If it doesn’t look right I can always leave off the 9th row.

Each rectangle measures 5 x 10 and next up is I need to cut 45 White Jelly Roll Rectangles that measure 2-1/2 x 5.

Halloween Brick Quilt

I’m still working on filming the Halloween Bricks Quilt Tutorial … but I can only work on it during the day …. because of lighting.  I hope to film some today but currently there are two lawn mowers going outside.  Some days I feel like they are out to get me!! It’s never quiet around here (and I do mean never!!!).   I could film it anyway but the Negative Nellies are stuck in my head with all the criticism they dish out!  This time of year it gets really bad and this week alone I’ve deleted 5 rude comments (over on Chic n Scratch). I would really like to say something back to them …but two wrongs do not make a right!

I’m going to film one more paper crafting video today and then I’ll work on the Halloween Quilt.   Wish me luck!

Lost & Found Halloween Fabric

Lost & Found Halloween Fabric
lost-found-halloween-fabric

I’m happy to report that I can resume filming the Halloween Bricks Quilt!

When I started making the quilt … my rotary cutter slipped and I had to order more fabric … it has arrived and on Saturday I’ll resume filming how to make it.

I think I can wrap it up this weekend.  Then I need to edit the videos and add the voice overs (voice overs will eliminate all the background noise while the video was being filmed like Bella barking and Skittles squawking).   Some days I wish I had help with all the video stuff but there’s something to be said for me being able to say “I do it all” (by myself).

Changing the subject …. My sewing machines have been calling my name all week and sadly I’ve had to ignore them.   But … I accomplished some amazing things at work this week!

  • Built 2 blogs for my downline (started a third).
  • Launched Business Builders Group for downline
  • Launched auto responder for new recruits (a whole year in the making finally done!).

I’ve officially started building blogs for my downline (free of charge).  I LOVE building blogs … just like editing videos!!

Next subject … have you seen the update to my blog (angiejuda.com)?  It’s so pretty and I love it!

When I decided to help my Stampin’ Up! downline build blogs I knew I had to find a service that could make them pretty.  I can build them but sadly I lack ability to create graphics (logos and banners).  And … free themes are not always a good idea because free themes don’t typically get updated … some do … some don’t. I think it’s best to be safe rather than sorry.

So … I found someone, tested their services and I was extremely pleased.  The two blogs I helped build this week will hopefully be up and running next week (they work now … but the generic theme is not pretty!).

I gotta run … I’ve been up past midnight every night this week and it’s finally hit me .. tonight I shall be in bed by 10.

See ya!

Halloween Quilt – wip

October 4, 2016 by Angie 3 Comments

I’m working on the Halloween Quilt in the evenings (after work) and I’m filming the process.

For those of you that want to learn how to make the Halloween Quilt …  I will post the videos … when the Quilt Top is complete …. that way if something throws me off course …. you won’t have to wait.

The quality of my videos will be different.  I’m filming these videos at night with my iPhone 7.   The iPhone films pretty fantastic videos … but we are dealing night time filming and poor lighting.  You’ll also see me move from the kitchen table to kitchen island …. to the basement.  The plus side is,  you should be able to make it when I’m done.

Here’s the latest picture ….

Halloween Quilt WIPa

  • I started with 7 Fat Quarters (see fabric here).

You only see six in the picture because my rotary cutter slipped and I messed up one … yes, that means I had to place an order for more fabric.  I stewed about it for an hour and decided I had to stick with my original plan and just buy more fabric.   On the plus side … I went ahead and ordered my backing fabric too!

The steps below will be in the video tutorial once it’s complete.

  • Press Fat Quarters (makes it easier to cut fabric straight). I skipped this step in the video.
  • Cut each Fat Quarter into 6 rectangles that measure 5 x 10.
  • Cut 35 white rectangles from a  White Moda Jelly Roll.  Each rectangle measures 2-1/2 x 5.
  • Sew one white rectangle to five of the six rectangles (you don’t sew a white rectangle on the last rectangle of each row  … it gets sashing).
  • Press the seams.

That’s as far as I’ve gotten …

See ya!

Baby Quilt – Quilt Along Video 3

October 2, 2016 by Angie 1 Comment

Baby Quilt – Quilt Along Video #3

  1. At this point we’ve sewn all our blocks together to form 9 rows.
  2. Press your seams  …. next you need to label your rows with the direction you want to press your seams.  I used a piece of fabric with the word “UP” on the rows I want to press up.   Press down on the rows not labeled.
  3. Once you’ve pressed the seams it’s time to sew again.  Place row 2 to row 1 (right sides together) pin and then sew it at a 1/4 inch seam down the right side.  Repeat with rows 3 & 4, 5 & 6, 7 & 8 and then add row 9 to row 8.
  4. Press your seams after you sew each pair of rows.
  5. After you’ve sewn those pairs together it’s time to sew all the rows together.  Just remember to pin and press and it will help your seams line up perfectly.
  6.  Press and starch your quilt, trim lose threads and measure it to determine your backing and binding fabric.   Click here to watch my video on how to measure a quilt for the longarm quilter.

I’ll share a better picture once I get it back from my longarm quilter.

To make the Baby Quilt you will need the following:

  • Layer Cake or Fat Quarters with 6 Patterns
  • If you use a Layer Cake … you want one that has two of each pattern
  • 1 Charm Pack (solid color that coordinates) I’ll be using White
  • Backing Fabric – 2-1/2 yards
  • Binding Fabric – 1/3 yard
  • Matching Thread
  • I will have my quilt finished by my longarm quilter and she provides the batting.
  • Basic Sewing supplies (scissors, sewing machine, etc)

The Fabric I’m using is Dream and a Wish Sandra Workman Designs by Riley Blake.

Here’s some more info about the Baby Quilt

  • Measures 40 x 40
  • Total 81 Blocks
  • Blocks measure 5 x 5
  • Quilt is:  9 Blocks Across and 9 Blocks Down
