Organizing Fabric

March 26, 2015 by Angie 6 Comments

fabricmarchb

My picture today is not very exciting …. but … I have committed to re-organizing our house in 2015.

My goal is to spend at least one to two hours per week.

I’ve made a lot of progress … in some areas … and every time I start to organize my old fabric I decide the job is too big and I move on to something else.  Plus organizing my old fabric isn’t near as exciting as playing (organizing) my pre-cut fabric (currently stashed in my dining room … some in my computer cabinet and some in my rolling cart from Ikea).

So … my picture is attempt number three to get some kind of system (for my old fabric) I have more …. not shown in the picture.

Here are some of my issues:

  • I want to keep all the fabric organized by color (green, pink, blue, brown).
  • I want to keep all the fabric designs together (for example all the Blush Fabric).
  • Fat Quarters, Layer Cakes, Jelly Rolls, etc (different sizes)
  • Xmas Fabric
  • Baby Fabric
  • Flannel
  • Kits (I can safely say I’m done with buying quilt kits …. I’ve bought several through the years and never made a single one)

I have all the Fat Quarters in the plastic container … eventually it will be organized by color!

As I’m typing this I can feel myself back pedaling … do I really want to tackle this beast?

I’m pretty sure I do …. so maybe next week I’ll share the end result … and if you don’t see anything …. just know that I’ll revisit it again in 2015.

See ya!

p.s. If you quilt or sew … how do you organize your fabric?

Modern Folkloric Double Scoops

My picture today is some new fabric …. it’s the Modern Folkloric Double Scoops.

I get super excited when new fabric arrives in this house!!    Much like how I feel when I receive product from a NEW Stampin’ Up! Catalog (new catalog is in a few months and the excitement is starting).

This beautiful fabric is for a friend that is going through a painful situation at the moment… I won’t mention any names but we’ve been friends for many years!   Her and her hubby are so  kinda & delightful!!  I pray for her family every night and several times a day. I hope a jelly roll quilt will bring her some comfort!! (I hope I can get it completed in the next 30 days.)

I’ve not touched my sewing much this month …. with the exception of the Layer Cake Quilt Along (I’m behind) and I miss it something terribly.  I should have sewn yesterday …. it was one of those days that everything went wrong!!

Blog Candy Winner

Congrats Diane T!! your name was drawn to win the  Layer Cake. Please email Laura your mailing address and we’ll get it in the mail asap ([email protected]).  I use a random number generator to choose the winner.

1st Jelly Roll Quilt

This is my very first Jelly Roll Race Quilt and if you look real closely you can see I failed to remove the 18″ at the end (if you don’t remove the 18″ …. all your seams will likely be in the same spot on each row).

It’s still a beautiful quilt …. and I’m keeping it for sentimental reasons (it was my 1st)  click here to read the original blog post about my Jelly Roll Race Quilt back in January.

I used the Deb Strain Cherish Nature by Moda Fabric and it was in my stash of fabric I bought years ago … (I’ve looked and can’t find it available).

Here’s a picture showing the backing fabric …
