Sweetheart Baby Quilt

February 7, 2016 by Angie 3 Comments

Sweetheart Baby Quilt
sweetheartbabyquilt

I’m excited to share my latest quilt with you!

It’s a baby quilt and I made it for my nephews new baby (she should be here soon).

I used the Sweetheart Charm Pack by David Walker for Free Spirit Fabrics.

Because the Charm Pack comes with both pink and blue I decided to buy two packs so I could remove all the blue and have just pink, yellow and green.  Now I have enough fabric to make another one … for a boy.

The squares measure 5″ and I made 7 rows for a total of 49 blocks.  Once I sewed them together I added a White Jelly Roll strip to the top, bottom and both sides.

It measures 36 x 36 …  perfect for a brand new baby!

I share more pictures when I get it back from my long arm quilter.

See ya!

Bricks Quilt – Quilt Along Video 5

Bricks-Quilt-Video-5

For the Bricks Quilt you will need:

  • One Layer Cake
  • Two Charm Packs (solid color that matches Layer Cake).   For example I’m using Bella Solid White Charm Packs because it matches the Windermere Brenda Riddle Designs Moda Fabric.
  • I purchased 5 yards of backing fabric… but you could get by with 4-1/2.  I may add another row to mine if the fabric allows it.  My last Brick Quilt was 14 rows but that was because the fabric did not allow me to add another row (there were several solids pieces that could not be used because I couldn’t add a solid to a solid).
  •  1/2 yard of binding fabric.
  • You will use 35 of the Layer Cake squares and 70 Charm Pack squares.

Quilt measures:  64 x 72  if you make it 14 rows (you can make it larger or smaller depending on your rows).

  • Sew your rows together.
  • Start with row 2 and place it right sides facing each other, pin it and then take it to your sewing machine and sew a quarter inch seam down the right side.  Remove pins as you go.
  • Repeat this step on each row until you complete the Quilt Top.
  • Once the quilt top is complete measure it to determine how much fabric you need for the backing and binding (and batting if you’re long arm quilter doesn’t provide it).
  • Trim threads, press and starch quilt.

As soon as I get my quilt back from the long arm quilter I’ll share the pictures.  For now, this is the Quilt Top (excuse my lighting … it’s been snowing here for days!).

The Jelly Roll Race Quilt Along Video 4 is ready.

Ambleside by Moda Fabric

  • One Jelly Roll (40 strips that measure 2-1/2 x 44)
  • 4-1/2 Yards of Backing Fabric
  • 1/2 Yard of Binding Fabric
  • Quilt measures:  54 x 63

In Video #4:

  1. Now that our quilt  top is complete we need to check it for holes and trim all the threads.
  2. Measure for backing and binding fabric using the Robert Kaufmann Quilting Calculator (app on iPhone).
  3. Press your Quilt and use Starch.
  4. Take the Quilt Top, Backing Fabric, Binding Fabric to a long arm quilter to complete.
  5. Optional:  If you want a label on the back of your quilt, also take it to the long arm quilter.

Here’s a picture of the quilt … please ignore the wrinkles!  I did not have time to iron this round of quilts … next time I will be sure to take pictures before I wash them.

Stack of Quilts

These are the Quilt Tops I took to the long arm quilter last week.

There are eight of them …. all but two are gifts.

  1. Ambleside Jelly Roll Quilt – Kathy
  2. Butterfly Quilt – Kim
  3. Mixed Bag Layer Cake Quilt – Ronnie
  4. Ambleside Layer Cake Quilt  – me
  5. Jelly Roll Quilt – Mallory
  6. Hello Darling Double Slice Layer Cake Quilt  – me
  7. Jelly Roll Quilt – Cora
  8. Jelly Roll Quilt – Savanna

And … here they are finished …  they are so beautiful!  It’s a good thing I already told them that they were getting a quilt …. otherwise I might find a reason to keep them for myself!

I’ll take pictures of each quilt … before I ship them out and I’ll be sure to post them here for you to see.

Jelly Roll Race Quilt Along

I’ve wrapped up video three and the four and they both will be posted next week.   This series only has 4 videos. Over the weekend I’m going to try to wrap up my warm up quilt for the next Quilt Along. (I need to make a couple before I can teach how to make them.)

Have a great day!
